Loyalty you don’t talk about

Sometimes not telling your customers how important they are is the best way to keep them spending.

My friend Rob Deeming from Gilt Groupe on retaining your most important customers.  Smart guy, I recommend a follow here.

I’m a bona fide Yankee fan - but in terms of throwing ticker tape parades thru the Canyon of Heroes for sports teams that win trophies after spending 208m - with U.S. unemployment at 10%?

I’d think best we save such celebrations for things like landing on the moon.

Really? Give me a break. People need sports and distractions and levity and wins even more in times of recession and unemployment. It doesn’t matter if the win is landing on the moon or winning the World Series. It’s all about celebration in bleak times.

And those $208mm were injected into the economy just like the billions spent on the Apollo Program.

I get the part about the uplifting celebration in bleak times - my point was does lower Manhattan need a massive ticker tape parade around what is really a commercial enterprise. Can’t compare the wins? Please. Take the parade to Yankee Stadium, save the big ‘Canyon of Heroes’ show for epic national events (wars won) and true heroes (U.S. astronauts first on the moon).

In the meantime I love this shot of Jeter and Matsui.

GPOYW - I’m in here somewhere. The step & repeat was sure getting a lot of play, not exactly a shy group at Tumblr Film Fest.

So very true.

I don’t get it. It just looks like Real Life.

I got to go to Tumblr’s REBLOG THIS FILM FESTIVAL tonight.  It was such a great time!
I hope our movie-going culture heads further in this direction.  In today’s contemporary night at the movies, we usually go to some sterile and styleless multiplex, sit among people whom we wish weren’t there, watch about a half hour of advertisement and then watch a movie to which we’re connected only through commercials we’ve seen on TV.  But tonight, I went to a fantastic cinema/venue, called CINESPACE, that I’ve been meaning to check out forever but only finally doing so now; it’s not rows and rows of people ignoring each other, but instead tables and chairs, a bar, a social environment, where the people and setting enhance the movie-watching experience instead of detracting from it.  There were no commercials.  And the short films we watched were made by people from a community to which everyone felt connected.
And I mean it when I say the short films were really good.  They showed one that Rian Johnson and RonenV and I made together out of a random page from Finnegan’s Wake.  It’s called Page 439.  There were a bunch of other cool ones.  The one that sticks out most in my mind, sadly I can’t remember the title, so I can’t find it to link it, but it was about a boy who had a television for a head.  What was that one called?  I want to watch it again…
Anyway, it was a grand success of an evening, and I just wanted to say thanks and bravo to the folks at tumblr who put it all together.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is absolutely right - Reblog This Film Fest worked on every single level - and sure felt like an important “film meets social media” inflection point. Great short films straight from the Tumblr community, ideal venue, an interesting mix of creative people (including one random, well-dressed homeless guy who snuck in and danced all nite like a man possessed), and just a lot of fun.
Meghano and Jacob congrats on a very successful event. And Ned you killed it w/ the music.  And David did a great job as MC.
